Fort Kent ~ Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) is pleased to welcome Dr. Ahmad Alhariri to its medical staff. Alhariri joined NMMC on July 6, 2014. He is the latest addition to the hospitalist team. A hospitalist is a physician who provides quality medical treatment to individuals while they are in the hospital. Because hospitalists do not maintain a private outside practice, their time is devoted solely to caring for hospitalized patients. Hospitalists specialize in all aspects of a patient’s care – from admission until discharge. To do this, hospitalists manage and coordinate the entire inpatient experience while working closely with the patient’s primary care physician.
A hospitalist program offers many advantages in the care of hospitalized patients. One advantage is that hospitalists have more expertise in caring for complicated hospitalized patients on a daily basis. They also have more time available to: meet with family members, follow-up on tests, answer nurses’ questions, and deal with any problem that may arise. In many instances, hospitalists may see a patient more than once a day to assure that care is going according to plan, or to explain test findings to patients and family members.
Dr. Alhariri attended the University of Damascus in Damascus, Syria, where he obtained his medical degree. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri. He has been a Clinical Fellow in medical genetics at the University of California at San Francisco, San Francisco, California since 2013.
Alhariri became certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2013. He was the recipient of two best graduating resident awards in 2013: the Sirridge Award and the Dr. and Mrs. Arnold Arms Award. As a member of the American Society of Human Genetics he has been working as a Clinical Fellow at the Outpatient Genetics Clinic at the University of California, San Francisco. From 2013 to present, Dr. Alhariri has been a presenter at various state and national conferences on subjects such as pulmonary disease and blood disorders. He has also been involved in the mentoring of pediatric and family medicine residents and medical students.
Dr. Alhariri currently resides in Fort Kent and began seeing inpatients at NMMC on July 13th. To learn more about NMMC’s Hospitalist Program, go to www.nmmc.org.
