Fort Kent ~ Peter Sirois, Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) Chief Executive Officer, recently announced the promotion of Alain Bois to a new position on the senior leadership team. Formerly NMMC’s Director of Nursing, Bois will now take the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Sirois said, “The COO role is a key position in supporting the organization to meet its goals.” He said Bois will continue to play a vital role in NMMC’s service excellence commitment to patients.
Bois attained an Associate Degree in nursing at the University Of Edmundston School Of Nursing in 1994, at which time he began his nursing career at NMMC. While at NMMC, he held various staff nurse positions on the Medical Surgical Unit, Emergency Room, Psychiatry and Endoscopy. He later held administrative positions as shift nursing supervisor, Nurse Manager of Inpatient Psychiatry and Director of Nursing at Forest Hill Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
Bois is an alumnus of the Hanley Health Leadership Development Program. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Administrators and Future Leaders of Long Term Care. He is a member of the board of directors for the Power of Prevention and is an active member of the Fort Kent Lions Club. In 2010 he was the recipient of the Nursing Community Recognition Award from the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
Throughout his thirteen years with NMMC, he has held various roles and has played an integral role in the completion of many clinical initiatives and improvement projects. Bois rejoined the organization in 2013 after serving as Director of Nursing at the Maine Veterans’ Home -Caribou. His passion for excellence in patient care and attention to detail has resulted in successful initiatives both at NMMC and at Forest Hill Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center. In 2001, he was responsible for the development of the Child Adolescent Psychiatric Unit. He later played a major role in the renovations at Forest Hill and most recently he coordinated the two million dollar renovation project for NMMC’s Emergency Department.
As COO, Bois will oversee, evaluate and coordinate services for various departments in the organization. The new position includes the development and execution of the strategic plan, providing quality care and managing cost-effective services. His areas of responsibility will focus on Nursing, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Information Technology, Risk Management, and Social Services. Bois said, “I am looking forward to the amazing opportunity of serving as the COO of this great organization. Joining NMMC was the best decision I’ve ever made and it’s been the privilege of a lifetime to work here since 1994.” His overarching goal in the new role is to continue to grow and evolve by building and strengthening new and old partnerships resulting in innovative programs aimed at providing quality patient care and patient experiences. A search is currently in progress to fill the Director of Nursing vacancy.
