Fort Kent ~The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), announced the month-long celebration of the work done by social workers to improve lives and communities. The theme for the 2016 celebration is Forging Solutions out of Challenges. Northern Maine Medical Center’s (NMMC) Social Workers daily embody this year’s theme by helping individuals and communities to solve issues that confront them.
Social workers are the largest group of mental health care providers and, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, one of the fastest growing professions in the nation. With more than 640,000 members, social work professionals help people, especially the most vulnerable, overcome depression, anxiety, substance abuse and other disorders. Their primary mission is to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and communities so that they may lead more fulfilling lives. In recognition of the numerous contributions made by Social Workers at NMMC each day, NMMC joins the nation to proclaim the month of March 2016 as National Social Work Month and call upon all citizens to join with the NASW in celebration and support of the Social Work professionals who are dedicated to improving the well being of others each and every day.
