Fort Kent ~ Last year, the Northern Maine Medical Center Guild contributed $10,000 to NMMC’s Emergency Department renovation project. With many fundraisers throughout the year, such as AVON drives and bracelet sales, members of the Guild anxiously awaited a tour to view the completed project which they worked so hard to support all year long.
On October 14th, as part of the monthly business meeting, Guild members were given a tour of the renovation project completed midsummer of this year. James Reese, RN, NMMC’s Director of Nursing said, “The three phase ER renovation project has facilitated work flow efficiencies and we are receiving very positive feedback from our patients regarding greatly improved privacy when they come to the ER”. As part of the tour, the Guild met the staff and viewed all areas of the new space including the decontamination area, the trauma room and the psychiatric safe room.
The next meeting of the NMMC Guild is scheduled for November 18, 2015 at 6:30 pm at the NMMC Medical Office Building and will feature guest speaker, Dr. David Jones, who will speak on the subject of stroke, with a focus on awareness, causes leading to stroke and early warning signs. Until then, Guild members will be busy with preparation for holiday cheer for patients in the form of festive meal tray items and plans for Christmas caroling at NMMC, Forest Hill and Cross Winds in December.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the NMMC Guild may contact Guild President, Doris Stevens at 834-6729.
