Fort Kent ~ Sandra San Antonio, Medical Practice Director at Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC), announced the addition of a new practitioner to NMMC’s Behavioral Health Services. Melissa Stoliker, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, began seeing patients on July 7th. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Maine at Fort Kent, in 2009, and obtained a Master’s degree in Rural Family Psychiatric Health from Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Kentucky, in May of 2016.
With seven years of psychiatric experience as a registered nurse at NMMC’s inpatient psychiatric units, she brings expertise to enhance the patient experience.
Stoliker received additional training at Massachusetts General Hospital in the management of post traumatic stress disorders in veterans and became certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has been a member of the National Nursing Honor Society since 2012. Her practice encompasses the treatment of both adults and children in the outpatient office setting, to include medication management. She is also a member of the inpatient treatment team on both Psychiatric Units. Stoliker said, “When I began my professional career, I was sure I wanted to work with cardiac patients. I was offered a position at NMMC in the adult psychiatric unit. At the end of my first day, I had fallen in love with psychiatric nursing which is where I have been ever since.” She said she pursued an advanced degree not only to expand her knowledge and skills but to help improve local access for patients in need of behavioral health services. She resides in Fort Kent with her husband. In her spare time she enjoys reading, quilting and gardening.
