Fort Kent ~Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) employees continued their journey to fitness by participating in the annual Caribou marathon in September. Seven employees participated and completed the half marathon. For some, it was the first time entered in a competitive race. All participants had also recently completed a one hundred day Global Challenge, hosted by NMMC to support ongoing employee wellness initiatives. For some, the Global Challenge served as part of their training for the marathon.

Ashley Plourde, first time half marathon participant said, “There’s a freeing feeling from running. It can somewhat be relaxing in a sense -the beat of your feet pounding on the ground.” Plourde said she was speechless to see how many people just came out of their houses and cheered the runners on as they passed their homes. For her, the community involvement greatly contributed to the experience. All of NMMC’s marathon participants plan to continue running as part of their fitness journey.
