Fort Kent ~ Northern Maine Medical Center’s (NMMC) Director of Nursing (DON), Cheryl Daigle, announced the promotion of Nicole Marquis, RN, from Nursing Supervisor to Associate Director of Nursing. Daigle said, “Nicole is well respected as a member of the Nursing Team and she will do an excellent job in the new role. She is a strong clinician and has a strong work ethic; she is never hesitant to roll up her sleeves and do what needs to be done to provide the best for our patients.” As Associate DON, Marquis will share in the oversight of the Nursing Department operations which is staffed by 125 employees.
Marquis graduated cum laude from the University of Maine at Fort Kent, in 2011, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Over the past six years, she has held responsibilities in varied acute health care roles such as: cardiopulmonary therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, Medical-Surgical and Intensive Care nursing, and currently, she is a member of the nursing leadership team as a shift supervisor. She maintains certifications in Electroencephalography, Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Adults and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Marquis said she was inspired earlier this spring when she was a panel participant at the annual Organization of Maine Nurse Executives’ (OMNE) Annual Nursing Summit. She said that the Summit was both inspiring and motivational and that is when she fully realized a clear picture of her professional goals. She is currently enrolled in a Master’s Program at St. Joseph’s College, pursuing an advanced degree in Nursing Administration. Of her new role she added, “I always knew I wanted to do something in acute care hospital nursing. This is where I want to be. I love the hospital. I want to see it succeed and I want to be a part of that success.” With her newly formed connection with Maine Nurse Leaders, she intends to focus on evidence based nursing practice, empowering nurses and pursuing excellence in how patient care is delivered. Marquis will assume the role once hiring occurs to fill her vacant position.
Marquis, a native of the St. John Valley, resides in Fort Kent, with her husband Chad and their three sons, 11 year old Walker, 9 year old Wyatt and 2 year old Weston. The family makes the most of the outdoors in camping, canoeing and fishing.
