Fort Kent ~ The Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) Guild held its monthly meeting on March 31st. The guest speaker for the evening was Lisa Eno, Family Nurse Practitioner at Northern Maine Medical Center’s Internal Medicine Practice. A resident of Fort Kent, Eno obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, in 1991. In 1997, she completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Husson College. Eno is a member of the Maine Nurse Practitioner’s Association and Sigma Theta Tau International. The topic for the evening was on the subject of women’s health issues. Ms. Eno spoke to a filled room about menopause and the physiological changes that occur as a normal part of the aging process. She explained the effects of changing hormonal levels on the body, and what women can do to reduce symptoms. In addition, she emphasized the importance of screenings such as: Pap tests, mammograms, blood pressure monitoring and knowing one’s blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Eno said, “Get your screenings done so you will know your risk factors.” She offered simple strategies that women could use to combat hot flashes, weight gain and changes in muscle mass.
